Highfield School awarded five-star food hygiene rating for tenth consecutive year
Highfield School in Liphook has once again been awarded the maximum five-star food hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), marking ten consecutive years of five-star inspections.
Every 18 to 24 months, the school receives an unannounced visit from an FSA inspector, who assesses food safety and hygiene standards across the kitchen and dining areas. This year’s inspection proved particularly demanding: the inspector arrived mid-way through lunch service for 400 children, with visiting musicians from the Royal Military School of Music in attendance, and while the Head Chef was absent.
Despite these challenging circumstances, Catering Manager Marco di Michele and his dedicated team maintained their impeccable standards. The inspector left thoroughly impressed, noting that visits to Highfield School are always an “easy tick-box exercise” because everything is consistently in order. The team were delighted to receive another five-star rating, extending their decade-long record of excellence.
Highfield School, a family-owned prep school offering day and boarding, places particular importance on food. Meals are a central part of daily life, with an emphasis on quality, variety, and nutrition.
One parent, whose child joined Highfield in September 2025, said: “The catering team deserve special recognition. The quality of the food is exceptional, and our children have undoubtedly become more adventurous and confident eaters since joining Highfield.”
Suzannah Cryer, Head of Highfield School, said: “I am blessed with a delicious lunch every day, made by this incredibly dedicated team and always served with a smile. Our catering team consistently go above and beyond in everything they do, and particular thanks go to Marco for leading the team with humility and composure.”
